13 things we loved this weekend: Soccer Aid, Pogba, Roma

Quick Reads

Manchester United and Newcastle United men, plus a former Liverpool striker, all caught our eye this weekend.

With the World Cup on the horizon, international teams around the world played some of their final warm-up matches ahead of the tournament.

And there was also some notable action in MLS, the bizarre case of Roma’s Twitter account and, of course, Soccer Aid. Speaking of which…

Blake Harrison

Better known as Neil from The Inbetweeners, Harrison scored the winning penalty at Soccer Aid, but had already stolen the show before kick-off.

Clive Tyldesley

CLIVE!

Paul Pogba

We have to admit, this made us drool.

Iago Aspas

That pass, that Diego Costa dribble, that finish. Yes.

Roma

Roma’s English language Twitter account was surreal to say the least this weekend, tweeting a number of brilliantly slapstick photoshops as well as a congratulations to Damien Delaney on his move to Cork City.

This poll, however, was our favourite.

Aleksandar Mitrovic

The Newcastle United striker continued his form from his loan spell at Fulham with a hat-trick for Serbia against Bolivia – including this belter.

Branislav Ivanovic

We never expected this from the former Chelsea man.

Yussuf Poulsen

Continuing our theme of brilliant goals scored this weekend.

Zack Steffen

The USA drew 1-1 with France in Lyon, and had an excellent double save from Columbus Crew goalkeeper Steffen to thank.

Joao Moutinho

No, not that one, but the 20-year-old defender scored a 97th-minute winner for LAFC in a 4-3 thriller against San Jose Earthquakes, and the scenes/sad faces on the opposition bench made us smile quite a lot.

Alphonso Davies

Staying in MLS, 17-year-old Canadian Davies bagged a goal and three assists as Vancouver Whitecaps thrashed Orlando City 5-2 – and he could easily have completed a hat-trick of goals.

Tomas Rosicky Jr

“TW*T! He must have a foot like a traction engine.”

Dejan Lovren

From a nice moment between father and son to an textbook case of sibling rivalry.
