The Bureau of Public Enterprises, First Bank of Nigeria Ltd, Heritage Bank Plc and Manufacturers Association of Nigeria have joined other organisations to mourn the late Chairman of Punch Nigeria Limited, Mr. Gbadebowale Aboderin, who died on May 30, 2018.
In their separate letters on Wednesday, they offered their condolences to the family of the late chairman, board, management, and staff of Punch.
The Director-General, BPE, Mr. Alex Okoh, described the late Aboderin as a publisher par excellence, as he prayed God to grant the family the fortitude to bear the loss.
The letter partly read, “No doubt, Mr. Aboderin was a publisher par excellence who made Punch newspaper a point of reference for excellence in the Nigerian media. He would be missed by all. However, his good work shall remain with us as a source of inspiration.
“As we pray for the repose of his gentle soul, we also pray that God grant you, the Punch family, and indeed members of his immediate family the fortitude to bear the loss.”
Also, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, First Bank of Nigeria, Dr. Adesola Adeduntan, said Aboderin led a fulfilled life worthy of emulation.
He said, “We at First Bank commiserate with Punch Nigeria Limited and the entire Aboderin family and urge you to be consoled with the fact that he lived a fulfilled life worthy of emulation, evidenced by his outstanding qualities that made a great impact on the nation.
“Indeed, his legacies in expanding the frontiers of the media, sports, and entertainment industries are unquantifiable.”
The Executive Director, Heritage Bank, Mr. Jude Monye, also sympathised with Punch and the family of the late Aboderin.
He said, “On behalf of us at Heritage Bank Plc, I extend my genuine sympathies with you, Punch Newspaper, and the entire Aboderin family during this period. Mr. Aboderin was an icon and pacesetter who will be greatly missed.”
The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, in a condolence letter by its Director-General, Mr. Segun Ajayi-Kadir, also extolled the late chairman as a respected entrepreneur.
He said, “Mr. Gbadebowale Wayne Aboderin, until his death, was a respected entrepreneur and a great philanthropist. He was jovial, amiable and an epitome of humility which will be greatly missed. During this difficult moment, please rest assured that our thoughts and prayers are with you.”
