Gossip: Modric makes decision, Pogba ‘crosses a plateau’

Luka Modric has played another blinder. The playmaker has been rumoured to be leaving Real Madrid all summer with Inter Milan seemingly his most likely destination. AS says Inter were offering contracts for six seasons – four at the San Siro and two more with Inter’s owners’ CSL side Jiangsu Suning. But now it seems the 32-year-old is going nowhere.

It’s not been a complete waste of time, though. According to Marca, Modric will go into the new season with a pay rise that gives him parity with captain Sergio Ramos, with only Gareth Bale taking home a fatter pay packet.

It is claimed that Modric was on the same pay scale as the likes of Karim Benzema and Toni Kroos. After plonking the Golden Ball down on the table in negotiations, the former Spurs star has been bumped up by around €3million a year to €11million.

Another midfielder apparently going nowhere is Jose Mourinho’s latest captain. RMC Sport says “Paul Pogba will play well at Manchester United this season. This is what the world champion has decided,” which is very noble of the club’s record signing.

Pogba has been linked with a move to Barcelona in recent weeks with Mino Raiola seemingly hawking his client around Europe much to United’s irritation. But the French outlet reports that the star is not intent on leaving Old Trafford, nor has he asked for a pay rise: “Pogba wants to show that at age 25, he has matured and crossed a plateau.”

Still, his tweet after leading United to a 2-1 win over Leicester on Friday night hints at not everything being rosy behind the scenes at United…
