June 12: Atiku’s aide threatens to drag Buhari to court

Godwin Isenyo, Kaduna.

The Secretary of the Northern Leaders and Stakeholders Assembly, Dr. Umar Ardo, said on Sunday that President Muhammadu Buhari’s posthumous National Award on the late Chief MKO Abiola, presumed winner of the June 12, 1993, Presidential election, and his running mate, Alhaji Baba Gana Kingibe,  and others amount to illegality and abuse of the constitution.

This, according to Ardo,  was because Buhari didn’t seek the advice of members of the National Council of State as stipulated in the Nigeria constitution.

Ardo, who is also a former Special Assistant to former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, has, therefore, threatened to drag Buhari to court over the matter and for declaring June 12 as Democracy Day.

Saying that the president’s action was unconstitutional, Ardo explained in a statement in Kaduna that he had sought from other members of the National Council of State, but was informed that the president never convened any meeting for advise before embarking on the National Award and the planned investiture of the awardees.
