L’Equipe have named France’s likely starting line-up for Saturday’s clash with Australia, making us wonder why we did not predict they will win the whole thing.
The good news for the French is that Kylian Mbappe will be fine despite limping out of training on Tuesday; he features in a side that shows just one change from the side that beat Italy 3-1 on June 1.
Raphael Varane – who missed that Italian win because he was still recovering from winning the Champions League final – comes in to replace Adil Rami.
The starting XI predicted by L’Equipe reads: Lloris; Pavard, Varane, Umtiti, Hernandez; Kante, Pogba, Tolisso; Mbappe, Griezmann, Dembele.
That leaves them with a bench featuring Olivier Giroud, Benjamin Mendy, Nabil Fekir, Blaise Matuidi and Thomas Lemar.
Bayern Munich’s Corentin Tolisso has forced his way into Didier Deschamps’ starting XI despite only establishing himself in the French squad this season.
He said recently: “It’s going to be my first big competition and it’s a dream. I want to prove to the manager that he was right to trust me, after a good season with Bayern Munich.”
