Manchester United may have to allow Daley Blind to leave the club for nothing if they want to lose his £120,000-a-week wages.
The Dutchman could return to Ajax four years after he arrived at United from the Dutch club for £13.8m; he made just seven Premier League appearances last season as he fell out of favour.
Blind is said to be interested in a return to the Netherlands, but Ajax could not afford both his wages and a transfer fee.
The Daily Telegraph suggest that that there are two options: Blind takes a wage cut or United waive a transfer fee.
United have signed full-back Diogo Dalot as well as central midfielder Fred, leaving them with two positions to fill: A centre-half and a ‘versatile’ forward. One option could be Willian, though reports suggest he would cost £70m.
Worryingly, the report claims that the decision to give a new contract to Marouane Fellaini ‘negates’ the need for another midfielder.
