Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho will reportedly shelve plans to sign a left-back this summer to prioritise the recruitment of a forward.
The Red Devils have been linked with moves for Juventus full-back Alex Sandro, Tottenham’s Danny Rose and Kieran Tierney of Celtic, but The Independent reports that Mourinho is willing to retain Luke Shaw as back-up to first choice Ashley Young.
Miguel Delaney writes that the United boss is more focused on signing a striker to provide back-up for Romelu Lukaku, who played the third highest number of minutes last season behind only David de Gea and Nemanja Matic.
Mourinho has strengthened his midfield with a deal for Fred waiting to be completed, and the boss now wants reinforce his forward line, despite the options already available to him.
Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Alexis Sanchez can all play through the middle but Mourinho is said to be looking for a central striker with similar qualities to Lukaku.
