Gareth Bale has reportedly told Bayern Munich he will only leave Real Madrid for a return to English football.
Bale spoke after the Champions League final to admit that he might look to leave Real Madrid because he “needs to play more regular football”.
That understandably caused him to be linked with a move to Manchester United, just like in every summer since 2012.
Bayern Munich also reportedly held an interest, and according to reports in the German media Bayern made initial contact with Bale’s agent Jonathan Barnett.
However, it’s claimed Bale refused to countenance Bayern’s approach because he made it clear that he will only leave the Bernabeu for a return to the Premier League.
The Sunday Mirror understandably sell that as a boost to Manchester United, although it is hardly clear whether United will be prepared to spend £100m on Bale when they have other priorities.
As ever, just wait and see. We’ve had this too many times.
