Bethesda has revealed that The Elder Scrolls: Blades, a new free-to-play RPG set in the Elder Scrolls universe, is coming to iPads and iPhones later in 2018.

A preview of the game was shown at E3 over the weekend, showcasing its astonishing graphics, massive open world, and entertaining gameplay. “You have to see this running on an iPhone X,” the company representative gushed in an on-stage demo. Check out the unveiling below.

Features promised for the game include “beautifully rendered, console-quality environments; powerful magic; tons of gear to collect; upgradeable skills; and, of course, real-time fantasy battles! Fights are settled using the touchscreen to slash [with] your sword, deflect oncoming attacks, cast a mighty bolt of lightning, and more.”

Unusually, the entire game can be played in portrait mode, along with the more conventional landscape orientation. While we imagine most people will still opt for the latter, this should make it much easier for playing on the go, when you don’t necessarily have both hands available.

In addition to iOS, the game will also be available on Android. There was no exact release date announced, although it was promised for fall — meaning that it should only be a few months away. In the meantime, fans can register their interest to participate in an early Blades beta. This will be used to test the game’s multiplayer.

Excited? We sure are! Even if the term “free-to-play” does make us fear the possibility of way too many in-app purchases. Let’s hope Bethesda doesn’t disappoint.
