Arsenal’s Eddie Nketiah and Everton’s Kieran Dowell combined for a great goal as England Under-21s came from behind against Mexico to win the Toulon Tournament for a third time in a row.
Aidy Boothroyd’s Young Lions fell behind with just over a minute gone when Roberto Alvarado scored, but Middlesbrough defender Dael Fry equalised from close range in the 32nd minute when Mexico goalkeeper Jose Hernandez failed to deal with a long throw-in.
Then, four minutes later, Nketiah showed great skill, pace, power and vision to beat his man on the left, hold off the challenge and cut back for Dowell, who calmly side-footed home first time low into the bottom corner.
Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham almost added a third when his shot hit the post, but the one-goal advantage turned out to be enough in the end as England withstood some heavy pressure to make it a hat-trick of wins at the tournament.
